EAA (Update: Race To The Top / Non-Starter)

DETROIT Reform district falls short of grant
Michigan’s statewide reform school district was one of 61 finalists in the national Race to the Top grant competition but did not win a prize, according to an announcement Tuesday from the U.S. Department of Education.
Sixteen applicants — representing 55 school districts across 11 states and Washing-ton, D.C. — will share nearly $400 million to improve student achievement.
The Education Achievement Authority of Michigan was one of two Michigan districts that were finalists for a grant; Utica Community Schools also was named a finalist, as part of a coalition of seven school districts from across the country, but also did not win.
