Michigan Manufacturing Association (Michigan Talent Champion Award)

Manufacturing Talent Champion

Advanced manufacturing relies on an educated and highly skilled workforce to grow and compete in the global economy. As the state’s leading advocate for the manufacturing industry, the Michigan Manufacturers Association supports educational outreach efforts that work to ensure Michigan’s K-12 system educates and motivates students toward manufacturing careers. The designation of the Manufacturing Talent Champion serves to focus public attention on the critical need for cooperation among educators, community leaders, economic developers and manufacturers to more closely align our state’s rich talent supply with existing and future manufacturing talent demand. We encourage manufacturers, community leaders, economic developers and educators to nominate Talent Champions.

Who to Nominate

Nominees may include educators, economic developers, non-profits, policymakers or other talent stakeholders who have been an exemplary partner and asset to the advancement of manufacturing talent in Michigan. A manufacturer must offer a letter of support but nominees are not manufacturers.

The Manufacturing Talent Champion will be manufacturer-supported and industry-selected for extraordinary efforts to:
  • Strengthen the manufacturing skilled workforce, now and in the future
  • Utilize pioneering spirit and vision to identify creative solutions to manufacturing talent challenges
  • Display leadership in improving connectivity across diverse talent stakeholders
  • Promote the image of manufacturing and the value of manufacturing career
  • Align student training opportunities with manufacturing skill demand

Criteria

The Michigan Manufacturers Association will coordinate the judging panel which will evaluate applications based on the following criteria:
  • How has the nominee connected manufacturers and stakeholders to strengthen the manufacturing skilled workforce, now and in the future
  • Describe how the nominee identified creative solutions to manufacturing talent challenges
  • How has the nominee exemplified leadership in improving connectivity across diverse talent stakeholders
  • What efforts has the nominee championed to promote advanced manufacturing careers
  • How has the nominee promoted the image of manufacturing and the value of manufacturing careers?
A letter of recommendation from a manufacturer is required.

Supporting documentation that may enhance the application include:
  • Promotional materials for manufacturing education opportunities
  • YouTube videos or other electronic promotional materials
  • Facebook pages or other social media demonstrations
  • Measurable program results
