WASHINGTON – Today kicks off the start of the Foundation for Excellence in Education’s fifth annual Excellence in Action National Summit on Education Reform in Washington, D.C. Hosted by Jeb Bush, Foundation Chairman and former Governor of Florida, this two-day event takes place Nov. 27-28, and is a forum to learn what works, what doesn't and what's next to transform education for the 21st century.

Keynote and general sessions will cover diverse topics, including: why leaders must unite and look beyond political lines to address our country’s educational concerns; how a powerful, parent-driven movement is impacting schools through Parent Trigger legislation; what states can do to ensure students and teachers get the most from Common Core State Standards; how education reform is linked to America’s national security; what can be expected from the upcoming national education agenda; and the importance of a long-term commitment to drive and achieve meaningful change.

More than 60 national and state leaders from both sides of the political aisle will share the latest research, proven and innovative strategies, and the national imperative for improving student achievement. Summit speakers include: Jeb Bush, Foundation Chairman and former Governor of Florida; Mitch Daniels, Indiana Governor; Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education;Dr. Condoleezza Rice, former U.S. Secretary of State; Joel Klein, former Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education; Dr. Richard Haass, President of the Council on Foreign Relations; David Coleman, President and CEO of the College Board; Bob Corcoran, President and Chairman of the GE Foundation; Dr. William Schmidt, University Distinguished Professor and Co-Director of the Education Policy Center at Michigan State University; John Podesta, Chair and Counselor of the Center for American Progress; Chester E. Finn, Jr., President of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute; Shirley Ford, Senior  Organizer of Parent Revolution; Dr. Gloria Romero, California Director of Democrats for Education Reform; and Campbell Brown, writer and journalist.
