STEM (Typical Definitions and Understandings)

Seriously. This is what kids think ALL scientists do.

I’m working on a little presentation for career day at my school.  I’ve done career day lots of times… sharing my passion for space science and helping kids see the COOL careers that NASA offers.  This morning I had a little idea… what if I could reach out to scientists and engineers via Twitter and this blog and find about ten careers in STEM to highlight in my hour long presentation?

Our kids grow up thinking a scientist is a guy with white crazy hair wearing a lab coat and mixing potions.  Literally.  They don’t understand that STEM careers offer the chance to be creative, the help people, to change lives, to problem solve in unique ways, and to collaborate with people all around the world.  Our kids need to see the STEM beyond science experiments in our classroom.

I would love to connect with ten different STEM careers… create a presentation with a photo of the career in action. If possible, I’d love to include a one minute video clip of you describing a day in the life of that career, or just a photo and some highlights describing your day so I can present it to kids.

Help me show kids life beyond the textbook.  I just want to inspire them.

If you can help, or know someone who can, please leave a comment or please email me atkrissy@venspired.com.  Thank you so much!
