Service Design – The Next Big Thing or a Trendy Buzzword?

If you work in the world of design and product development, you’ve been living under a big rock if you haven’t heard about service design. But what is it really? Is it the new frontier for product designers or just the latest buzzword?

Currently in our industry, there are different and often conflicting definitions of service design. Many people think of service design as being connected to customer service and therefore is staff training and development. While this is true, comprehensive service design involves the entire ecosystem surrounding a person’s interaction with a brand and requires deep consideration and design of every experiential element.

Continuum has been developing new techniques and approaches for creating compelling service design experiences. We would like to share our experience in this area and offer insights into where we think service design is heading in the future.
