The Smithsonian Center for Learning and Digital Access invites the museum community to join them online for “Rewarding Museum Participation and Learning: New Approaches” on Tuesday, April 23, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm EDT (Washington, DC Time).

Claudine Brown, Assistant Secretary for Education and Access will open the program and introduce guest speaker Maxwell L. Anderson, the Eugene McDermott Director of the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA), who will discuss “Changing the Currency of Museum Membership: Participation v. Cash.” The DMA uses BadgeOS to power their groundbreaking "DMA Friends" program.

Following Anderson’s presentation, Jonathan Finkelstein, Founder of Learning Times and Credly and Director of the BadgeOS Project, will give an overview of digital badging programs that reward achievement and the latest trends in this outreach strategy.

Four Smithsonian educators will then discuss how badging advances the learning objectives of their Smithsonian units:

· Stevie Engelke, Director of Programs, Smithsonian Center for Learning and Digital Access

· Rebecca Bray, Manager of Interaction Design and Strategy, National Museum of Natural History

· Amy Homma, Manager of Digital Learning Programs, ARTLAB+

· Caroline Payson, Director of Education, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum

This is the first program hosted by the Smithsonian Center for Learning and Digital Access. Formerly the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies.
