GM giving $900,000 to EMU project to boost science, math education in schools
By Associated Press
YPSILANTI — General Motors Co. said it's making a three-year, $900,000 gift to an Eastern Michigan University-based project to boost engineering, math and science education.
The grant announced Friday goes to Project Lead The Way.
GM and Eastern Michigan describe Project Lead The Way as a top nonprofit provider of science, technology, engineering and math curriculum materials for U.S. middle and high schools. They say that it's unlike traditional math and science courses because its engineering and biomedical sciences curriculum materials apply "math and science principles in a real-world context."
In Michigan, 122 schools now offer the project's programs in Michigan. GM says its annual $300,000 grant could expand that by 24 schools.
